Tidbit Tuesday

Did You Know??????

That Katie's family just celebrated their 5th Family Birthday!

I can hardly believe how much time has passed since that day in December 2005 when we first met our C, B and V!  They have grown and changed and blossomed so much!  On the other hand, it seems like far more than 5 years has passed.  Like we have been a family for as long as I can remember.  I certainly couldn't imagine my life without them!

That's us in Liberia 5 years ago.  Getting ready to fly home and celebrate our 1st Christmas together!  Now we are about to celebrate our 6th Christmas.

I LOVE Family Birthday!  I never did like the term "Gotcha Day."  It just rubs me the wrong way.  For us, the day we met our kids was truly the birth of our family.  That was the day that a young couple went from being a "just the two of us," to a family of 5!  As the first anniversary of bringing our children home approached Camera Guy and I knew that we wanted to make it a BIG CELEBRATION!  We always want our kids to know what a blessing they are to us.  We want them to know that they day we met them was one of the most important days of our whole lives and that we love them, love our family, and love the way that God has brought us together!

So every year we do it up big!  And this year we had a blast as usual.  We went to the Kalahari resort in Sandusky, Ohio to the biggest indoor water park in the country!  Here are a few pics of us enjoying our getaway together...

How do you celebrate your adoption day?

  1. we haven't had our first adoption day yet, but I am already planning it out! We adopted domestically from Texas, and I have been thinking about celebrating by having a full out Texas style bbq with family and friends. My bio kids must be excited for that day to come too, because they are always asking what we will do for Sam on his family birthday (I love that term by the way!).

  6. We call our adoption day our Famiversary (family anniversary) Our daughter was 18 months for our Famiversary this year and didn't get it, so we didn't do much, just went out to dinner (which is a rare treat!). But next year we'll have 3 kids through adoption and 2 of them will be old enough to semi understand it so we'll have to think of some traditions.

  7. I have never heard it called that before and I was struggling to find the right wording to describe the day for us. That is perfect and thank you for filling that void for us!
We live in Ohio close to that waterpark too. I think I would have recognized the girls if I saw them. They are "famous" now!

  8. What fun! We have yet to decide how we will celebrate! We don't like the term "Gotta day" either and haven't come up with another name yet. Our problem is that one child was adopted on National Adoption Day which is so fun, but our other child is still a foster child and the date for adoption has not been determined yet....probably June. Do we celebrate 2 different ones or combine? I don't really know!!! Thanks for sharing your story to give me more to think about. Our little one is 18 months and bi-racial black/ white and our foster darling is AA with the most gorgeous hair I have ever seen. I am learning so much due to your site. Thank you for that!
